2017 Carolinas Section Area III Meeting

June 19, 2017

Congratulations to Hilton Head Chapter Members, Tom Logue (Moss Creek GC) and Mark Tomedolsky (Cherokee Plantation) on there win at the Area III Challenge Title!

It was a beautiful day at Osprey Point Golf Course - Kiawah Island for the 2017 Carolinas PGA Global Golf Sales Area III Meeting and Golf Challenge Presented by Bionic Glove, PGA Tour, PXG & Source4.  The team of Mark Tomedolskey (Cherokee Plantation) and Tom Logue (Moss Creek GC) won after carding an impressive score of 25 points in this modified stableford scoring event to capture the Area Challenge Championship.

 

Area III Professionals gathered for fellowship and education, highlighted by a board update from Vice President Paige Cribb and an engaging player development presentation by CPGA Teaching & Coaching Committee Member & Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor Krista Dunton, PGA from Berkeley Hall Club.  A special thank you to Area III Director Josh Wagaman for administering the meeting and Head PGA Professional Ric Ferguson and the Osprey Point staff for hosting the event.

** Logue & Tomedolskey will advance with their Area Director (Josh Wagaman) to the Carolinas PGA Area Challenge Section Championship on Monday, October 9th, at the Greensboro CC – Farm Course.  Logue & Tomedolskey also each earn a spot in the Global Golf Sales Par 3 Challenge, a $1,000 per hole skins game on Monday, Nov 27th before the CPGA Pro-Pro Championship at Pinewild Country Club’s par-3 “Azalea” Course featuring 72 PGA Professionals.

2017 HHIPGA March Pro-Pro

The HHIPGA held its second event of the year at Port Royal Golf Club.  The Pro – Pro event was conducted on the Robbers Row Course.  A special thanks to HHIPGA Vice President, Ben Smith, and his entire team for the outstanding service and great hospitality at Port Royal.  Charles Fox, Head Professional at Berkeley Hall Club, and his partner Jason Heintschel, Assistant Professional at Long Cove Club, carded an 8-under par 64 to win by 3 shots.  The event was close until Jason and Charles recorded and eagle 2 on the Par 4 16th hole.  Below is a picture of our Champions.  Charles Fox is pictured left and Jason Heintschel on the right.  We wish everyone a great spring golf season!

PGA Professional Team Wins 23rd Tar Heel Cup

Two teams of the best playing amateurs and PGA Professionals from the state of North Carolina met for the 23rd time in a friendly team match play event called the Tar Heel Cup.  River Landing Country Club located in Wallace, NC hosted this event for the third time on its River Course.  For the first time since 2009, the PGA Professional team won the cup from the Amateurs with a total score of 9½ to 2½.   The PGA Professional team won each of the first day's four-ball matches where the better score of two partners for each hole counted.  Each match was worth one point.   Scooter Buhrman of Gates Four G&CC / Savio Nazareth of Starmount Forest CC won 3 & 2 over Josh Nichols (a) of High Point CC / David Sargent (a) Carolinas eClub Charlotte Chris Haarlow of Precision Golf School / Michael Hutcheon, a PGA Life Member, won 4 & 3 over Uly Grisette (a) of Forsyth CC / Lionell Sutton (a) of Walnut Creek CC Larry George of River Landing CC / Cory Schneider of Pointe Lake & GC won 4 & 2 over David Gies (a) of Quail Hollow Club / Dustin Moore (a) of Alamance CC Nick Jacobi of Monroe CC / Matt Vick of Pinehurst CC No. 9 won 1 Up over Scott Harvey (a) of Sedgefield CC / Paul Tucker (a) of The Club at Longview   Day two featured singles matches.   Cory Schneider of The Pointe Lake & GC won 2 & 1 over Uly Grisette (a) of Forsyth CC Savio Nazareth of Starmount Forest CC and Scott Harvey (a) of Sedgefield CC halved their match Chris Haarlow of Precision Golf School and David Gies (a) of Quail Hollow Club halved their match Larry George of River Landing CC won 2 & 1 over David Sargent (a) of Carolinas eClub Charlotte Scooter Buhrman of Gates Four G&CC and Lionell Sutton (a) of Walnut Creek CC halved their match Josh Nichols (a) of High Point CC won 1 Up over Nick Jacobi of Monroe CC Matt Vick of Pinehurst CC No. 9 won 1 Up over Dustin Moore (a) of Alamance CC Michael Hutcheon, a PGA Life Member, won 1 Up over Paul Tucker (a) of The Club at Longview   Complete results are available online.   The first team with 6½ points wins the Tar Heel Cup.  The PGA Professionals now hold an all-time lead of 14-6-3.   Both the Carolinas PGA and the Carolinas Golf Association extend their sincere thanks to the members and staff of River Landing for their incredible hospitality.   View More...

Junior Golfer Places at DCP National Finals

We're so excited to see one of our DCPers place at the Drive Chip and Putt National Finals held at Augusta this past weekend. Clinton Daly of Charlotte, NC took second place in the boys 12-13 age group Driving a 6, Chipping a 9 and Putting a 9 to a total score of 24. His victory at the regional and subregional levels in 2016 afforded him the opportunity to participate in the national finals championship the Saturday before the Masters. CPGA Jackpot Winner, David Von Canon, Takes Home $5K!

In case you missed it, David Von Canon, PGA, Head Professional at Sanford Golf Club, was the winner of the $5,000 jackpot prize at our 24th Annual Merchandise Show this year! This was the first year the Section hosted a jackpot drawing of this caliber at the annual event.
