CAROLINAS PGA LEADS NATION IN DONATIONS TO FOLDS OF HONOR

Browns Summit, N.C. (March 11, 2015) – The Carolinas PGA Section is proud to once again lead the nation in raising funds for the Folds of Honor Foundation. In 2014, the Carolinas PGA and over 175 of its facilities raised more than $500,000 through various events and initiatives. This includes Patriot Golf Day, which asks golfers every Labor Day weekend to add an extra dollar to their greens fees in order to help fund Folds of Honor Scholarships.

Folds of Honor provides scholarships and other educational assistance to the spouses and dependents of those that have been killed or disabled in military service. Since its founding in 2007, the organization has awarded over 7,500 scholarships, including more than 2,000 in 2014.

“I met PGA Professional, CEO and Founder of Folds of Honor, Major Dan Rooney at a PGA Annual Meeting in 2007 when he first addressed the delegation about launching Patriot Golf Day. His vision for this initiative immediately caught my attention as well as that of our three officers,” says Ron Schmid, CPGA Executive Director. “From that point on, the Section has made it a priority to help grow awareness for the Foundation year round.”

“I speak for myself and the entire Section when I say I couldn’t be more honored to support Major Dan and Folds of Honor year after year,” continues Schmid. “Our donation milestone for 2014 speaks volumes as to how much of an impact the Folds of Honor Foundation has made on golf professionals, not only in the Carolinas, but in the entire country.”

Tony Biata, Vice President of Patriot Golf Day, adds, “None of this would be possible if it weren’t for great supporters like the Carolinas PGA. We are very fortunate to have this #1 ranked section lead the charge year after year.”

Long Drive Long Shot

PGA Professional and Carolinas PGA Member, Jeff Crittenden is featured in the February issue of PGA Magazine. See below for an excerpt of his story by Roger Graves, PGA Magazine, and click the link below to read the full article.

"PGA Professional Jeff Crittenden was undeniably the underdog, perhaps the longest of longshots, when the eight finalists took their warmup swings in the $250,000 winner-take-all RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship that aired live on Golf Channel from the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort in November.

The thinking went like this: How could a 43-year-old club professional, a full-time golf teacher with a clubhead speed of 125 and generating a ball speed of 210 mph, possibly match long bombs with numerous 25- and 30-year-olds who routinely generate clubhead speeds of 152 mph and ball speeds of 225-plus? How could Crittenden, at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, possibly keep pace with the 6-foot-5, 250-pound “kids” who looked like they just came from NFL training camps? How could the co-owner and PGA director of instruction at North Carolina Golf Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina, match long drives with three former world champions and seven highly experienced Long Drivers with the world championship belt at stake? Actually, Crittenden flourished – underdog or not."
