Schneider Captures 64th S.C. Open

The Carolinas PGA hosted its 64th Annual South Carolina Open, presented by Yamaha Golf Cars, April 22-23 at Dataw Island Club. The highly anticipated 36-hole tournament brought together over 100 participants for two exciting days of golf on the Cotton Dike Course.   Cory Schneider, PGA Teaching Professional from The Pointe Golf Club in Powells Point, NC took home this year’s champion’s crystal. Schneider opened the championship with an impressive round of 68 (-4) to lead by one stroke. At one point, four competitors held a share of first place at two under par.  However, Schneider stood up to the challenge and made a number of solid shots and putts – none more important than his up-and-down for par from 110 yards on hole #17. That save gave him a one-stroke advantage coming to the scenic par-5 hole #18 set along Dataw Island Club’s neighboring salt marshes.  Schneider proceeded to steal the show by draining a 25-foot uphill birdie putt.  His two-day total was 68-73=141 (-3), and he received a first prize professional check of $3,000.   Mike Townsend, PGA Head Professional at Kiawah Island Club’s Cassique course on Kiawah Island, SC,  finished a few groups ahead of Schneider with rounds of 73-70-143 (-1),  earning second place. Amateur Joseph Cansler from Clemmons, NC and Eerik Kauppinen, PGA Head Professional from Regent Park Golf Club in Fort Mill, SC, finished tied for third at 144 (E).   The 64th SC Open is an official CPGA Bob Boyd Player of the Year Presented by Omega points event and is one of the most highly anticipated CPGA events of the season.  We’re thrilled to have hosted a successful tournament, and we thank all of those who volunteered and participated. A special thanks to the team at Dataw Island Club for their hospitality. For more information please see here, and keep an eye on our Facebook page for photos from the tournament.                   View More...

April 22 officially declared North Carolina Golf Day

As part of North Carolina Golf Day, Carolinas Golf Association Executive Director Jack Nance met Wednesday in the Old Capitol Building with legislators and allied golf leaders. Governor Pat McCrory declared April 22 as North Carolina Golf Day in appreciation of the golf industry's contribution to our state. Director of Golf at Old Chatham GC and CPGA Vice President, John Marino, poses with NC Golf Day Proclamation, Governor Pat McCrory and various members of The North Carolina Alliance of Golf as they celebrate the special occasion.      The golf industry is represented in every county of North Carolina through more than 550 courses in the state. A 2013 study performed by SRI International confirms the golf industry's role as a major economic driver in North Carolina, contributing a $4.2 billion annual economic benefit to the state. North Carolina golf provides the basis for close to 53,000 jobs and $1.3 billion in wage income alone (2011 figures).     This is a wonderful accomplishment for North Carolina and goes to show that golf is much more than just a game.    Read full article   View More...

Event Updates from HQ

TAKING PLACE: The CPGA District 10 Meeting, led by District 10 Director, Rick Murphy, is in progress today and tomorrow at Pity's Sake Lodge in China Grove, NC! POSTPONED: Old North State CPGA Senior Open    Due to unfavorable playing conditions, the decision has been made to postpone and reschedule the Old North State CPGA Senior Open. We apologize very much for the timing of this news, however, the following factors have led us to this decision:   1.   The weather forecast for Monday includes 80% chance of showers beginning late in the day Monday, continuing through Monday night, with 100% chance of rain all day Tuesday.   2.   The condition of the golf course is unfortunately not where McConnell Golf, Old North State Club, and the Carolinas PGA would like it to be to showcase to our members and guests.   We feel these factors would not give this event as much value as it should. Again, we realize the timing of this decision is not ideal and do apologize for that.   The tournament IS going to be rescheduled for July 20-21, 2015.   Thank you everyone for your understanding and cooperation with this decision. For further information regarding this event, please visit /Tournaments/tournament/6212/     View More...

Last Call for 64th South Carolina Open Players

This year's South Carolina Open takes place April 22-23 (*this event falls two months earlier than last year). This is a reminder to register for the 64th South Carolina Open Presented by Yamaha Golf Cars.  Scenic Dataw Island Club and its Cotton Dike course will play host.  The course was renovated in 2011, and in late April, the weather in the Lowcountry should hopefully be perfect.   This year, the tournament is 36-holes over two days.  The third round was eliminated in the hopes that more people can get away for two days of fun competition than can for three. Click here for tournament information & online registration **The deadline to register is this Thursday, April 9 at 5:00 PM.**   We look forward to seeing you there!     View More...

21st Tar Heel Cup Matches finish in a draw

The 21st Tar Heel Cup Matches finished in a draw after two days of play at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, NC. Two teams of the best playing amateurs and PGA Professionals from North Carolina met to conduct these friendly annual matches. With each match worth one point, the PGA Professionals jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first day's four-ball matches.  However, the amateurs battled hard to win five of the eight singles matches the next day. It takes 6½ points to win the cup outright.  Since the matches finished in a 6-6 tie, the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) will retain the cup until next year.  The Professionals' all time record is now 13 wins, 5 losses, and 3 ties; however, the amateurs are on a six-year unbeaten streak. Both the Carolinas PGA Section (CPGA) and the CGA extend their sincere thanks to the members and staff of River Landing for their incredible hospitality.   NC Amateurs (white attire); NC PGA Professionals (blue attire) PAST CHAMPIONS 1995 - Amateurs 1996 - Professionals 1997 - Professionals 1998 - Professionals 1999 - Professionals 2000 - Amateurs 2001 - Professionals 2002 - Professionals 2003 - Professionals 2004 - Professionals 2005 - Professionals 2006 - Professionals 2007 - Professionals 2008 - Professionals 2009 - Professionals 2010 - Tie 2011 - Tie 2012 - Amateurs 2013 - Amateurs 2014 - Amateurs 2015 - Tie Full Tournament Results View More...
